Stutter is not low FPS, and the fixes are different
July 27, 2026
A steady 80 fps plays better than an average of 140 that
hitches. If your problem is hitching rather than a low number, graphics settings
are mostly the wrong place to look.
Restart the game every two or three raids. Tarkov has a long-standing memory
leak: frame rate degrades the longer the client stays open, and no setting
prevents it. If your last raid of a session always feels worse than your first,
this is why, and it is the single highest-value habit on this page.
Enable XMP (Intel) or EXPO (AMD) in BIOS. RAM ships running below its rated
speed until you turn the profile on, and this game is unusually sensitive to
memory speed. Commonly worth 5–10%, and it costs nothing.
32 GB is the practical minimum in 2026. At 16 GB the engine spends the raid
paging, which is felt as hitching rather than as a lower average.
Install on an SSD. Textures and locations stream in during the raid, not only at
load, so a mechanical drive shows up as stutter mid-fight and as the long black
screen everyone else has already finished loading through.
Mip streaming buffer 32, disk usage limit 768. This governs how much texture
data is held ready; the defaults are conservative for modern machines.
Worth understanding: Tarkov is CPU-bound. The processor handles physics, AI and
networking, so on a busy Streets raid a faster GPU often changes nothing. If you
are deciding where to spend money, that is the order.
